- Open Web browser and Download WinMTR at winmtr.net
- Open WinMTR, enter a host IP address and press start. For example, use 4.2.2.2
Note: Google’s DNS is not a reliable target since they are employing ICMP filtering in some regions
- This tool will provide statistics of each hop along the path with packet loss seen.
- As the example shows the first hop has packet loss. The first address is a local address this would be a router on site. The second hop is the Internet Service Provider (ISP) gateway. Specific attention is needed when dealing with packet loss. If the first hop shows packet loss and all the others don’t you will still have network connectivity problems.
